A Gommil from BumbleBee Bight

A Gommil from BumblebBee Bight is from the book of limericks by Tom Dawe.
Adapted for stage by Marcia O’Neill with encouragement from the Golden Goose

Our gommil from BumbleBee Bight sets out on a tour of Newfoundland with his strange companion, the Golden Cod. His travels take him to many outports around the province where he meets characters, both human and other, who present a view of Newfoundland life and culture which is fast disappearing.
The limericks in A Gommil from BumbleBee Bight, by Newfoundland poet Tom Dawe, are humorous sketches of outport living using vocabulary unique to Newfoundland. The rhythm of the limerick lends itself easily to traditional melody and dance, making this story lively and toe-tapping.

The Christmas Sneeze

The Christmas Sneeze: Short story, by Thomas Hardy
Adapted for stage and Newfoundland by Marcia O’Neill

The story is set in Carbonear on Christmas Eve, 1910. Young Hubert Pike is travelling home after dark when he is accosted by three robbers. They steal his horse and leave by the side of the road. Hubert struggles to reach help and finds himself welcomed to the Simon family’s Christmas celebration. But when the three criminals threaten Hubert’s new friends, they find that they have met their match in Hubert’s wit and courage.
Join the fun and music as Symphonic Storytellers celebrate Christmas in the tradition of one hundred years ago.

The Mermiss Curse

The Mermiss Curse - Inspired by The Mermaid Summer by Mollie Hunter
Adapted for stage by Marcia O’Neill

Like so many other households in the community, the Parsons were cursed with the fact that both Father and Grandfather worked on the mainland most of the year; away from the family. ‘It’s the economy that’s to blame’ has always been the reason given.
But when Tessa starts to listen to some of the stories, she wonders if the real cause of the hardship is the mermaid rumoured to be living under Curse Rock. And so she decides to do something about it.
